Journey through Psosas with Jambo
Background to this workshop
When it comes to traditional anatomy, there are many classifications of muscles/ muscle groups. The yoga world is still predominantly grounded in agonist/antagonist relationships. Therapists may spend years learning all the origins and attachments of the 650+ skeletal muscles in the body. The simple truth is that the brain does not think in individual muscles and in seeking to understand our bodies we can often do down a rabbit hole of endless anatomy of information.
At Body Conscious studio we are a collective of multi-disciplinary practitioners in embodiment who continuously strive to deepen our understanding of the human body in all its aspects from an experiential level. While traditional anatomy is fascinating, our principles are founded in the decades of contributions to the field from Lisa Peterson of Living Yoga, Bonnie Bainbridge Cohen of Body Mind Centring, Dr Jospeh Kramer and the Sea School of Embodiment. Yearning for a deeper knowing of who we are and how we are in this world. We seek to connect the realms of physical, experiential and emotional and erotic bodies, to gain a deeper understanding of the impact of our sense of self, interception, nervous system and holding patterns in the body.
The Body is our bridge to access deeper layers of knowing that perhaps we are beginning to remember and know ourselves, in ways that our ancestors experienced daily while integrating the science of anatomy.

Year upon year we keep inviting one of our favourite teachers of yoga, anatomy and personal growth back to Belfast to offer you an experiential deep dive into knowing your bodies a little bit deeper.
If you have not attended a workshop with Jambo Dragon before do NOT expect a yoga or anatomy class. Jambo is a multi-dimensional spaceholder who weaves years of anatomy and yoga teachings, holistic and eastern medicine with his own brand of Buddhist wisdom. Jambo has an incredible knack of knowing just where your edge is and what’s holding you back, seeing your unique patterns he uses practices which support us seeing ourselves and releasing somatically.
We are delighted to be able to bring this much requested workshop to Belfast, with oour work on collective and sexual trauma we feel excited this will be an incredible unfolding of deep inner knowing and release.
Journey to Psoas
5 day workshop
13th – 17th NOVEMBER 2024
The psoas muscle gets a lot of attention, and so it should. This is a muscle that not only bridges the core to the legs, but it’s also a massive stabiliser and protector of the spine. When we experience impact from the forever changing and unpredictable environment, the body receives this shock and deals with it from the inside. Many musclo-skeletal structures play various roles, but one that they share is that they have the ability to absorb shock from the impact of the physical and emotional world. The psoas is one of the muscles to touch the spine. Before arriving at the psoas, the other structures above have as much shock as they can. But whatever they are not capable of dealing with, the psoas has to work extra hard to ensure that shock doesn’t cause too much stress to the spine. The psoas not only absorbs shock. When it is functioning well it helps us to move from our core enabling us to dance, yoga and all the movements that we love. Having an optimum psoas is essential to freedom of movement in the core, lower back and hips. There are many routes to the psoas, and this training explores a plethora of them.
Day One:
10am Opening ceremony & Meditation
11-12.30 yoga poses for psoas integration
2.30-5.30 presentation and bodywork on Lovett-Brothers Theory What happens in one of the spine occurs in the other. This class works on balancing the psoas by addressing its complementary structures on the other side of the spine.
Day Two: The Psoas Family
Today we focus on the hip flexor group, learn how to activate them in yoga poses and how to release them in bodywork
We also cover ‘The Other Psoas Family’ This class focuses on the activation and release of the possible antagonists of the psoas
Day Three: Myofascial Continuums
This class explores the key myofascial continuum’s of the psoas muscle. This helps us to understand the relationship of the synergists (the muscles that help) the psoas. We will address how to activate and release each muscle.
Day Four: Myofascial Continuums- The Antagonists
What’s the myofascial meridian that could have opposing effects on the psoas? This class explores the structures that could be weak or tight from antagonist myofascial meridians that we explored from the previous day. Learning how to handle the compensation patterns from the antagonist group of muscles welcomes a greater quality of stability
Day Five: Acupressure, Somatics & Cranial Theory
This class explores the acupressure points associated with the psoas, including a dive into the Kidney channel and its relevant points for detoxification, supporting and enlivening this aspect of the spirit.
We will also cover cranial holds relevant to the psoas for maximum integration.
You do not need to be a yoga teacher or bodyworker. It’s more important that you have a willingness to explore your own intricacies and are willing to honour them in order to maintain the rhythm of the program.
